Unshuttered is a photo-based social network and part of the Getty Center Museum’s annual youth summer art program. In early 2017, the Getty approached Revolve in hopes of developing a photography-based initiative for their 2018 art program. Given their target demographic of Gen Y and Z, we conceived a solution akin to Instagram, requiring a minimal learning curve for its future user base. The final product: A mobile app for iOS and web app social network targeting aspiring teen photographers who seek to improve their photography skills. The app and website provide users with educational content and tutorial videos covering a vast array of photography skills. Users can submit their photos to a series of eight unique photography challenges covering a wide range of photography techniques. Users can even browse and “like” other user photo submissions. After only a few months, Unshuttered amassed a user base of over 8,000 young and aspiring artists. The Getty and Revolve look forward to continuing to develop this initiative for years to come, adding new challenges and evolving the product’s future set.
